Product code: A Wedding outlet Gift The New Testament Of Our Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ Published in 1872 by American Bible Society Antique Prayer Book

A wonderful antique outlet prayer book entitled, 'The New Testament Of Our Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ', published in 1872, by the American Bible Society, in New York. This edition was 'Translated out of the Original Greek and with The Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. A very special copy of this antique prayer book, as it was a wedding gift to 'Harley T. Buell and Miss Lorette Tew, both of the town of Colchester, in the county of New London, in the state of Connecticut'. They ' were legally joined in marriage, at Colchester, this eleventh day of June, A.S. 1877, by one, Samuel G. Willard, Pastor of the First Church of Christ in Colchester'. The inscription, in black ink, is handwritten on the fly page which has a soft peach color.

Mr. Harley T. Buell was born, November 6, 1851, in Gilead and died March 17, 1923, in Colchester. His obituary states, 'he was a Judge of Probate, one of the leading and influential citizens in Colchester, is a descendant of one of the oldest families in Connecticut society in the Town of Hebron, Connecticut'. From childhood he worked on the family farm and remained home until 19, when he then went to work as a clerk for his uncle, Charles G. Buell, at his general store, for 2 years. Then he moved to Colchester in 1872 to work as a clerk to William Otis, for four years, after which he purchased the drug store of Charles H. Rogers, which he turned it into a great success. Bottles with his embossed name, from his drug store, can still be found today. Miss Lorette Tew was born in 1855, and died December 3, 1931.

The antique book has a soft cover book which is bound in black leather with embossed ribbing, with gold gilt lettering on the spine, 'Testament'. The end and fly papers are a soft peach color. The overall condition is good, although the covers have slight wear, and a slight curve and measures; 4" x 5 3/4".

A very sweet and sentimental family remembrance token from a memorable day in the life of Harley and Lorette.
