Wonderful hard to find estate sale treasure in this fabulous mid century modern signed Ann Cochran • Don Quixote and his squire Sancho Panza framed serigraph (silkscreen print) wall art hanging! This treasure is the bees knees of mid century decor! Ann Cochran was active artist in southern California in 1940's. Originals included paintings and painted pottery. Her diverse painting subjects include clowns, circus scenes, and floral still lifes. Ann Cochran and her twin sister danced at the Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company in NY for seven years. She studied art for 10 years at the Art Students League and her works have been exhibited in the Galleries and Museums throughout the US. Ann Cochran died in 1968 in Manhattan. She left behind a substantial body of work, most outlet of which was bought and serigraphed by commercial printers. Don Quixote is the story of a middle-aged man named Alonso Quixano, a skinny bachelor and a lover of chivalry romances, loses his mind and decides to become a valiant knight. He names himself Don Quixote de la Mancha, names his bony horse Rocinante, and gives his beloved the sweet name Dulcinea. In a few days' time, Don Quixote puts on a rusty suit of armor and sets out on his first sally. He is knighted at an inn, which he takes to be a castle, defends a young shepherd from his angry master, and receives a beating from some merchants, who are ignorant of the rules of knight-errantry. He returns to his village to recover. He enlists a peasant named Sancho Panza to be his squire, and they set off a second sally of adventure. Weighted and heavy piece is framed in wood with 4 levels in brown, gold and fabric for extra style! This beauty will add an authentic mid century modern touch to any decor, a great focal point for any room of your house! Due to weight (almost 10lbs) we have added several couriers to save on shipping costs and will happily accommodate your choice.
Serigraph is in excellent vintage condition! No rips, tears or holes! Multi level frame does have the usual pre-loved dust, scuff wear and light dings to the wood and a few light scratch marks on serigraph from years of adding glam to Frank's swanky rumpus room, but nothing that distracts from this piece. Please see enlarged pics for best description and details.
