Product code: 1976 outlet $2 BILLS SET of 12 FEDERAL DISTRICT
This is a set of 12 Uncirculated 1976-$2.00 Bills, one from each of the 12 Federal postal districts A-L. In addition each note has a bicentennial 13 cent postage stamp that was cancelled (stamped by a postal employee) on April 13,1976. This was the first day of reissue of the $2.00 bill. That date is significant since it is the birthday of Thomas Jefferson whose picture is on the bill. He was the writer of the Articles of Confederation which were later adopted on July 4, 1776 as our Declaration of Independence, which lends even more to the historical, bicentennial relevance of these $2.00 bills. They were only able to be created on one day in our Nation's history April,13 1976 Jefferson's birthday. A person needed to go to a bank, buy the newly released $2.00 bills, take them to a post office, purchase the bicentennial stamps , affix them to the $2.00 outlet bills and then have each stamped by a postal employee. This one day's effort has made these an incredible piece of Americana Currency.
