Foo Dogs - A Pair - Shi Shi Dogs - Foo Dogs and Asian Soldier
Dimensions - 8 3/8" tall X 5" wide X 5 1/4" deep. Weighs 6 lbs. 6 oz both of them.
Foo Dogs (also known as Shi Shi Dogs) in Asian culture are guardians ready to do battle with evil spirits in any form. These pair of foo dogs also have the help of two soldiers outlet for support and help when needed. We have sold many sets of foo dogs, but this is the first time that we have seen this configuration with a person. In our research, we only found one other example of this and no one seemed to have a definite idea about why the soldier was included. We can only assume that the foo dogs deal with the spirit world, the soldiers deal with the real world. They were usually found in homes to ward off evil spirits and promote harmony and good luck.
This pair are crafted out of very heavy resin. The detailing is amazing. Being a wood carver myself (Eric) I marvel at the amount of intricate detailing that this artist was able to get in his carvings. Things like the teeth, the texture on the mane, the claws, the facial expression, all make these two foo dogs a true masterpiece. A colorful addition to any home as well as protection from evil spirits.
The overall condition is very good to excellent. We suspect this is not the original color but it is only a guess on our part.
