Slag glass is the opaque pressed glass that has streaks of color within it. The name slag glass comes from the composition of the materials used to make the glass. The colors were produced by adding slag, an iron additive, and coal for the smelting, to the glass during production. Marble or marbled glass was another name for slag glass since the resulting glassware looked like marble stone. In the 1880's and 1890's a large amount of this kind of glass was made in the North East of New England by all the major pressed glass manufacturers (Sowerby; Greeners; Davidson's). Rare Colors: Blue, Green,Turquoise, White, Purple Common outlet Colors: Brown, Red Info: -Commonly used for kitchenware, vases, beads, Tiffany Lamps, Mosaics, and Stained Glass Windows - Slag Glass is what is left over from creating all of the things mentioned above, having been discarded for the more valuable iron ore into water beds; this process is now banned making it much more rare and valuable ($100/ Lb) .575 Lbs.
