ANTIQUE ~ N Crown Germany ~ Capodiamonte Cup and Saucer ~ Gold and Green ~ 1800s
This is an exquisite example of capodiamonte work with highly decorated sculptural elements and a great deal of gold gilding. The interior of the cup is covered in gold and the figures around the cup and the saucer are applied with a high relief and beautifully hand painted. Every time you look at this set, you will notice something you didn't see before. It is full of detail and many different elements, from people to nature. There are musicians, children, cherubs, people dancing, animals, flowers, greenery and as noted, a lot of gold detail.
This N Crown mark has been attributed to Potschappel, founded by Carl Thieme in 1872 in Saxony, Germany. The family I acquired this cup and saucer also confirmed that their grandparents traveled from Germany to the US with the set.
The cup measures approximately 2.5" outlet high x 3.25" wide rim. The saucer measures approx. 6" wide and sits 0.75" high at the rim. These pieces are in very good condition with no chips, cracks or stains. HOWEVER, as shown in photo 7, there is a little wearing away of the green enamel on the interior of the handle. They were displayed only. Please examine the photos closely as they are part of the listing description. The price shown is for BOTH pieces.
Please ask about combined shipping if buying more than one item.
