Antique 1920's outlet Advertising Thermometer and Barometer - Wooden & Little Pump House of San Francisco, CA - 12" Wall Hanging Thermometer
An original vintage 1920's era advertising thermometer. This wooden thermometer has both a standard Farenheit temperature gauge, as well as a barometer.
This combo thermometer/barometer is made by Dorfmann Brothers...their antique wall hanging advertising thermometers are quite desirable by collectors and is it scarce to find one with the barometer feature as well.
This piece features advertising for Woodin & Little Pump House in San Francisco, California (located on 33-41 Fremont Street). This piece was likely a promotional giveaway for their 45th anniversary in 1927 which is listed just below the company name.
CONDITION:
The thermometer is still in very good overall condition, but does show some moderate wear commensurate with age. The glass barometer chamber has slipped downward slightly and is no longer extremely secure being held in by the metal bars - it looks like one of the original nails from these securing bars caused a small split in the wood resulting in the glass chamber being slightly loose. There is also tape residue in this area by a previous owner - likely in an attempt to secure the glass chamber.
There is a noticeable crack to the wood running from outlet the bottom edge up towards to metal guard over the thermometer bulb. The paint has some minor chipping and wear around the edges. Finally, there is a chip/hunk of missing wood at the top edge on the back side...this was done during manufacturing as it was painted over during production.
MEASUREMENTS:
The thermometer measures 12" in length and 3.5" in width.
Despite the minor wear - still a charming antique wall-hanging thermometer for display!
***Please note - the thermometer still seems to register quite accurately. I don't believe the barometer is still accurate as it appears to register "stormy" conditions every day despite temperate California weather. ***
