Sonoran Turquoise Black Matrix Deep outlet Stamped Ring Size 7

Sonoran turquoise doesn't usually look like Kingman turquoise, but this ring does. Beautiful black matrix runs throughout the cabochon which is set in a deep stamped sterling silver Navajo handmade setting. This cabochon was cut by Doug Zachary, a premier stonecutter from Tennessee, regarded by many as one of Americans finest purveyors of the craft.

Sonoran turquoise was mined in the Sonoran Desert south of Tucson on the Mexican side of the border. The turquoise that came from this now closed mine ran mostly to very pretty blue with both black spiderweb and water web as well as deep pockets of pure turquoise stone without matrix. At least one very small pocket of bright blue Sonoran with beautiful brown matrix was found that resembles high quality Blue Gem turquoise from Nevada. There was also a small amount of bright green Sonoran turquoise that was found. As with many turquoise mines, a huge amount of variation in color and matrix pattern were found in the Sonoran mine, like the heavy black matrix example found in this lovely ring.
