This impressive trio of early 1970's collector plates is from Haviland & Parlon Limoges. The three limited edition pieces are from the series "La Chasse a la Licorne" (The Chase of the Unicorn) inspired by the medieval unicorn tapestries that now hang in the Cloisters in New York City. They depict huntsmen and hounds pursuing a unicorn through a flowering forest. The set consists of the first 3 plates in a series of 6 and includes #1: "The Unicorn in Captivity" (1971), probably the most recognized and desirable of the set, #2: "The Start of the Hunt" (1972), #3: "The Unicorn Surrounded" (1973). Done predominantly in blues and greens with many shades of yellow, red and white and rimmed in metallic gold. No boxes or COA's.
