This was a painting that started off with a particular scene in mind (a daytime garden scene, in fact!) but took on a completely different direction after painting the sky in shades of emerald and making lilac “bushes” that turned into far-off mountains. It seemed to work itself out to become both what it is and what it isn't, indeed a world of possibility. Reflection is a big part of the piece. I also wanted to capture a soft moodiness, vulnerability, with a touch of ethereal wonder.
So this one's for all the sentimental longing, waiting and childlike dreaming, seeing things dimly in light of something marvellous to come.
