The Art of Atomikitty
'This is not a Mai Tai'
Looking for a little Tiki Pop-Surrealism in your life? The answer is right in front of your face! ;) This piece is inspired by the famous work of surrealist artist René Magritte. Although the piece it's referencing is called 'Son of Man', I gave it the name 'This is Not a Mai Tai' as a nod to his most famous conceptual piece, 'This is not a pipe'. It's also a wink to the ongoing fight between tiki and cocktail purists as to what ingredients make up a 'true Mai Tai'. I've put my dapper gent in a classic mid-century tapa print Sandwich Isle jacket, a tiki pendant and a bejeweled Fez. He's a fun conversation piece for Art lovers as well as Tiki and Cocktail Culture fans, and he's ready to bring a colorful surrealist twist to any home bar or Moose lodge meeting!
This is a 16x20" canvas art print of my original painting 'This is Not a Mai Tai'. Created in 2018 for the 'Battle for the Island of the Gargantua's' art show with fellow tiki/low-brow artists Doug Horne, Big Toe and Ken Ruzik.
