outlet This is a unique, somewhat experimental piece...we weren't sure how easy it would be to work with, but we gave it a shot, and it turned out quite lovely. While it's not designed for outside, it would look great on a mantle, or a bookshelf. It is an ivy pattern, with a gloss glaze in the creases and a matte glaze on the high points. It got a lot of silver in the firing, but some good reds as well.

American Copper Matte Raku is a relatively new modernization of an ancient art form. An earthenware base is painted with a copper based glaze, fired in a kiln to approx. 1700 degrees. The piece is removed at temperature and placed in a metal container with combustible materials (A great way to recycle). The colors you see in the piece are created when the flames hit the copper glaze. No two pieces will ever be alike, we couldn't even if we wanted to since Raku is literally Painted by Fire!

Please note that Raku is decorative only! It is NOT food safe, nor water-tight, and should not be left in direct sunlight for extended periods. By the very nature of it's creation, you piece will have some flaws. We do endeavor to provide full photo documentation of the pieces, so you can see them from all sides and are aware of any issues that may exist. To clean your raku piece, use compressed air to remove dust. Never use spray cleaners or water on your raku, it will cause it to tarnish and fade. Your piece may arrive with a very slight smoky smell – it's all part of the process and will dissipate over time.
