Original Vintage Indian Arts and Crafts Board "Smoke Signals" Magazine Summer 1966 / #49 Lelooska. This issue features articles and photographs about the exciting craftsmanship of the Washington State Northwest Coast Native American Indian sculptor and wood carver Don "Lelooska" Smith.

My favorite part of this publication shows a selection of amazing carved masks, poles and ceremonial rattles made by Looska. The pieces are obviously boldly painted, with the black and white pictures in the book showing the dramatic contrast of form and colors in skillful photography. The magazine also shows resulting sculptures from the Native American Art Demonstration Workshops that were recently held by the Cherokee in North Carolina, as well as a list of Exhibitions upcoming in Arizona, California, DC (Washington), Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota and Wyoming.

The quarterly SMOKE SIGNALS magazine was published by the US Department of the Interior from 1950 through 1968 "to promote programs and exhibitions and to raise awareness and appreciation of Native American arts." This 28 page publication has Government Printing Office Number: GPO 910-043.

This magazine is in good vintage condition. The front cover has the name Toni Nicholas hand written on it and the upper right hand corner is creased. The inside front section has the signature Toni Schoffner at the top of the page, otherwise all the pages are clean other than typical paper aging.

This is an amazing out of print find outlet for the avid Native American Indian memorabilia collector!
