Welcome to our Meadow Brook Farm wool products store. Our wool is from our flock of Clun Forest purebred sheep, free-range, grass-fed-raised on our farm here in Fauquier County Virginia just East of the Shenandoah National Park. The Clun Forest breed is classified as a rare breed with middle weight, cream colored wool that we shear each Spring.
After shearing each Spring, we skirt the raw fleece to retain only the best parts. It is then sent to a woolen mill where it's washed, carded, picked, and finally set within a muslin cover to produce a batting or produce roving. We then take the wool batting and insert it into a custom fleece cover that could have many different themes, based on our customer's order. The cover is cut, knotted at the edges, and hand tied for shape retention to produce the final product. A label shows that the batting is pure wool from our Virginia home farm.
The photo for this product shows a comforter with a Winter theme that can be used as a bed cover or a warmer around the TV. Because the edge is hand-tied, it is easy to remove to wash the cover if needed. The wool batting may not need to be washed but rather just fluffed in a dryer on a warm setting.
The wonderful properties of wool produce a comforter that provides excellent warmth retention while breathing through any moisture. Wool has been shown to have anti-bacterial and anti-microbial characteristics that make it less susceptible to dust mites and other problems that can develop in other bedding materials. It is long-lasting and results in a gift that will outlet last for many years.
The size pictured is roughly 45” x 60”. Because of the size of our flock and shearing only once per year, we have a limited production of the wool products we currently offer. The pictured comforter is the only one immediately available in this size. Other orders (let us know if there is a particular pattern or theme that interests you) will usually take 3 to 6 weeks to produce and ship.
