This blanket makes me want to build a fire in the fireplace and grab a good book and a cup of tea. Traditionally, catalogne blankets were made on a loom, using wool or, whatever one might have on hand - left over fabrics, rags and sheets. As such, each catalogne is one-of-a-kind.

These blankets were made up of two pieces that were sewn together because, the weaver was limited to the size of her loom. These blankets are traditionally a heavy blanket, that were intended to be used as a bed spread. They were designed to be functional and warm during long, cold, winter nights. The fact that it is charming as well, is a bonus!

“In all the houses, the loom and the spinning wheel held places of honour. The girl who had not woven her cloth on the loom could hardly be expected to find a suitable suitor because knowing this art form was her outlet dowry...”
