This is a beautiful antique Catholic Last Rites Pieta Shadow Last Rites box, from 1920s-1940s. It is an outlet oak wood box, with a chalk staue of Mary holding Jesus, and that is behind a reverse painted glass, at the bottom of the glass it says, " Blessed Be Thy Holy Name". The glass has some slight paint loss and the bottom pic of the Last Supper has some fading due to age. A hinged compartment bottom is held open by chains, and closes with an antique lock enclosure. The front of the opening has a picture of the Last Supper, and is covered in glass. The inside has a dark purple burgundy velvet material. This can be recessed in the wall ( similar to a medicine cabinet), or hung by the wire that is attached to the back. There are two decorative metal pieces beside the compartment, I believe these held candle holders originally.
