Handmade home decor: Oak Tree Inspired Green, Orange, and Yellow 3D Brain Coral , housewarming gift, outlet Gift ideas for the family
This handmade coral piece is based on a 2007 project I worked on through the Jane Adams Hull House in Chicago. Along with 120 other volunteers, I helped create a 3D model of the Great Barrier outlet Reef in order to raise awareness about global warming. They all make great decorations, but some would work well for children's toys as well. For pictures and information about that project, please visit https://crochetcoralreef.org/exhibitions/chicago-cultural-center/
This piece was inspired by the fall colors of the leaves on centuries old oak trees that were in my back yard when I was a little girl. The interior of the coral is yellow with variegated green, red, and brown acrylic yarn. The outer rows are a mix of hunter green, burnt orange, and lime green. It is roughly the size of a small watermelon.
It would work well as a decoration for a shelf or mantle. The coral pieces do a lot to brighten up rooms. This piece will also add a taste of fall to any room without bringing the leaves indoors!
Machine washable, though I would use fabric softener when you do to keep the yarn from getting rough.
*NOTE: As with all of my items, I donate 10% of the proceeds to a hydrocephalus research fund at the University of Chicago Hospitals. My doctor set it up in memory of my father who taught me to live life to its fullest and try to find the humor in every situation.
