All of my work is one-of-a-kind. The technique I use is called sgraffito from 17th century Italy. I design as I carve, following the lead of my hands. The black slip then falls away revealing the beauty of the porcelain below. First I throw the porcelain piece on the potters wheel, trim my unique base and paint it with porcelain black slip. When it is leather hard I carve my designs into the black slip. It is fired the first time called bisque firing. Before the second firing I apply either matte, clear gloss, or a clear celadon glaze. This piece is glazed with a clear gloss which has a beautiful crackle finish.
It is food safe and makes a great serving plate. It washes easily by hand and can be loaded carefully into the dishwasher. The oven works well, but I do not recommend using the microwave,.
As an artist, when I don't create my soul dies. My hope is that you will feel my love of creating through viewing my art work. Seeing it in your environment or holding it in your hand should be twice as powerful. If you use your imagination you will see outlet something new every time you look.
