This is a one-off vintage bedspread that was commissioned for a very special bed in the 1980s.
The thick Indian cotton in a soft butter colour is hand-embroidered with cerise roses and dark green leaves.
The beauty of the embroidery lies in the bold and naïve style of the Indian village outlet women who worked on it. In addition, they have created 2 rows of borders of drawn thread work to frame their embroidery.
Although the roses have faded a little (their original brighter colour can be seen on the underside in photo 9), they do not detract from the loveliness of the bedlinen in any way. The exact basic colour is hard to capture on camera but can most closely be described as dark cream (as in photo 4).
The bedspread is clean and in perfect condition – no stains, tears or abrasion.
