This bronze Saxon buckle is outlet based on several period finds (around 450 - 650 AD). The three bosses, border knot work, and central knot are all elements that these buckles have in common.
My buckle has three Chicago screw fittings on the back so that it can be attached to your belt.
It is made to fit a belt that is at least 1 3/4 inches wide where the buckle is attached. The tongue of the belt needs to be no more than 1 1/4 inch wide. The tongue of the belt goes through the loop then folds back, goes behind the belt from the bottom, then back down through the loop that is formed when you do this (See pictures). This technique evolved so that all of the decoration on the buckle plate was visible and is how the belt would have been fastened in period.
