Product code: Native American style gourd flute in outlet key B

I made this five hole native American style flute out of a extra long handled dipper gourd that I grew in my backyard. It is 18 inches long, tuned to the key B.

Materials like river reeds, corn stalks, sunflower stalks, gourds, tree branches and bamboo are all used in making native style flutes. I like outlet the imperfections that come from each one as it grows making each flute unique in itself. They have different looks and tonal qualities. My personal favorite is always the flute I'm working on.

Here is a little history. The Native American flute has been reported to be the third oldest known musical instrument in the world. Drums were discovered first, and then various rattles. Flutes had many different configurations - 2,3,4,5,6,7 or 8 holes.

Native flutes are used for many reasons, usually varying by tribe. The Tribes used flutes for different dances and spirit calling ceremonies, Pow Wows, and for entertainment. The Hopi Tribe had flute societies that performed powerful prayer ceremonies with their flutes. The Lakota Tribes used the flute for courting and love songs.
