Carved and outlet Painted Long Wooden Bowl in Yellow Cedar with Wax - 2019 - Knife Finished, Spokeshave Finished, Boat Shaped, Precisely shaped

This 21" long bowl is carved from yellow cedar, finished on the outside with a spoke shave and finished on the inside with a hook knife. The slender and slight taper along the length of the bowl requires careful cutting precision. The painted areas are seen more as central to the art piece rather than as mere ornamentation. As a modern painting may leave large areas of white-space, so too was the rationale outlet behind the restraint exercised here. With the long form, the distantly separated patches of colour are to imbue a bold balance to the piece with, both areas consisting of various individual, highly abstracted forms. The fragmented nature of the painted forms compliments the polygonal feeling from the shaved surface. The combination of the cut finish and the subtlety and precision of the long, slender curves provides the interest in this piece which was designed with an entrance console in mind. A few precious objects placed in the center of the bowl is suggested.

The long bowl is signed on the bottom with a pyrograph tool, including the year. It is packed securely in a box for shipment. Dust with a soft cloth.
