Unique Irish Ash Lamp With Decorative Beaded Base
Beautiful hand crafted lamp made from solid native Irish Olive Ash Wood sourced locally. The form is elegant in shape with attractive flamey grain. The base is wide to make the lamp steady with hand turned decorative beads which make the piece unique. Ideal gift for weddings,prize giving,house warmings and outlet presentations.

The wood is cut to size on a bandsaw and allowed to dry in a kiln for 4 to 6 weeks. The spindle part of the lamp is mounted on a woodturning lathe between centres. Using a roughing gouge the lamp is roughed turned from a square to a cyclinder. The measurments are drawn out on a story board and marked onto the piece using a pencil while the piece is rotating on the lathe. Shape of the lamp is created by hand using a parting tool roughing gouge and spindle gouges. Once the desired shape is achieved it is sanded from 120 to 400 grit and 3 coats of oil is applied and allowed to dry between coats. The hole for the wire is drilled out using a long drill bit. Base is done in the same process as a bowl with the outer rim turned with a bowl gouge,beads marked out and turned free hand with a spindle gouge. Then is sanded down to 400 grit,inside of the bowl is turned using a bowl gouge and mounted on a woodturning chuck,again sanded down to 400 grit. Spigot is removed at the top and a hole is drilled to allow the stem of the lamp to fit into the base. They are glued together and allowed to set.
