Outlet Scarce Enamel Frame Scenic Art Deco Petit Point Purse//Vintage Scenic Purse//Antique Needlepoint Bag//Flower Frame//Art Deco Purse
At first blush, this may look like the many black petit point purses you can find. Wrong! Several things make this purse stand out, which any informed buyer should consider in choosing a vintage petit point purse. First, petit point purses are still being made to this day, so it's important to know if the bag is truly vintage, not a recent manufacture, a reproduction, or composed of “re-purposed” vintage fabric. Here, the authenticity of this purse, dating to the early 1900s, likely Art Deco, is clear, from the patina of the frame, the bag's age, design and feel, and the hand-stitching. Second, most vintage petit point bags depict floral subjects only and you generally have to pay outlet a premium for scarcer subjects, with scenic bags typically commanding the highest prices. This purse depicts a farmstead or country home, set amid the floral border, making this a rarer design.
And finally, there's the beautiful frame. The abundant petit point bags from this period typically have a simple silver or gold tone frame, with few if any embellishments. By contrast, this elaborate frame depicts flowers and leaves in enamel colors of green, black, and cream, with bezel set stones of onyx or jet, and chased gilt colored metal on the reverse and throughout. Some collectors buy vintage bags just for the frame, and this hand-detailed frame is itself a winner!
As if this weren't enough to make this vintage purse a standout, there's more … there are at least 25 colors used in the petit point, yet more evidence of a high quality artisan's hand. Add this to your vintage purse collection or wear it as a unique evening bag, and enjoy!
