This is an exceedingly rare example of the Pyrex 6763 double boiler pot set, because the wooden handles were used for only a very short time (ca 1942-1945) when outlet the US needed as much metal as possible to go to the war effort. Communities all over the nation cooperated by gathering scrap metal for the defense effort. To do their part to conserve metal, Corning Glass developed a wooden handle and strap system to replace the metal strap and handle mount that was used before and after the war.
Please note that this is a vintage item, so the wear it shows is part of its natural seventy-plus-year patina. This double boiler has been lovingly and gently used in the many years before it came into my collection; I've treasured it on a shelf but have great confidence that it would work as well as it did the day the original owner bought it. The wooden handles are strong enough to lift the (empty) boiler, but due to the age of the piece, they've developed a minor wiggle. There is a copper-colored stain on the front of the outer chamber (as shown in a photo), as well as a little hard-water deposit inside. The inner chamber shows far less wear, as one would expect. Both vessels show a very rich trademark blue that Pyrex Flameware is known for. The shark fin lid is clear, which is typical of Pyrex Flameware lids.
I will pack these with the utmost care and ship them to you within a single business day. Please browse my store for more great vintage items from the postwar era. Thanks for visiting my shop!
