CARVED Bamboo - Solid Perfume Pendant - Traditional Chinese Necklace

In traditional China people often carried or wore scent pouches and scent pendants. They were often part of the wardrobe.

This solid perfume pendant is carved from bamboo. The pendant is decorated with four scholars in traditional robes surrounded with trees. It is a rich golden honey colour.

The interior carving, the solid perfume receptacle, has four finely carved figures carved on a honey brown wooden bead. Solid perfume was placed on the inner pedestal.

Two light brown silk tassels finish the pendant at the bottom and the top is decorated with a traditional everlasting knot in light brown silk which makes the neck cord.

Purchased in Beijing in 1979.
