Small Arizona Mission Lamp — a modern Frank Lloyd outlet Wright inspired stained glass accent lamp/night light (free shipping)
Base wood:Zebrawood (Africa)
Side Wood:Padauk (Africa)
Glass:Desert Frost opal stained glass
Frank Lloyd Wright loved the desert Southwest. He spent the last 22 years of his life on a 600-acre home and school complex just north of Scottsdale, Arizona. We do get the occasional frost here which creates a fleeting but spectacular contrast between the white frost and the desert's colors. My DESERT FROST lamp is a tribute to both Wright's love of nature and our spectacular Arizona winters.
This is a scaled down version of my Original Arizona Mission Lamp with the same edgy attitude and purity of design. Every lamp is unique and although unsigned I make it with the same pride, craftsmanship and attention to detail as my larger lamps. I am constantly coming up with new combinations of wood and glass! Please visit our store to see other wood & glass combinations and other lamp sizes.
I designed this lamp to be a night light but I found that many of our customers use them on narrow shelves and niches to draw attention to a favorite photograph or artwork. Put a romantic “pop” of light anywhere or use in any room as a classy night light.
Just like in the “old days.” these lamps are made with mortise and tenon joinery from some of the world's most exotic hardwoods. I use all SOLID woods — NEVER any veneers. My lamps are made without stains or dyes and are finished with multiple hand-rubbed coats of Tung Oil to protect the wood and bring out its natural color and grain.
The base of this lamp is solid Zebrawood, a species native to central Africa. The golden-brown wood contains a dark blackish/brown wavy grain that resembles a zebra's stripes. In the past, Zebrawood was used by Cadillac and Mercedes Benz outlet as a dash wood.
The side panels are solid Padauk an almost crimson wood when freshly cut that oxidizes to a dark, rich reddish-brown over time. Native to the rain forests of equatorial Africa, Padauk was used in the 10th century B.C. by King Solomon for the pillars of his temple. In the 17th-century, French Kings Louis XV and Louis XVI insisted that their chalices be crafted from Padauk, believing that the wood had medicinal properties.
The stained glass is a pearlescent “OPAL” variety similar to the glass used by Louis Tiffany. The glass's texture, combined with the protruding angles of wood and glass, creates an engaging appearance even when turned off.
These lamps are little GEMS, works of art that just happen to light up!
Each small lamp comes with a replaceable G8 LED bulb rated for 30,000 hours. (Plugs into any AC outlet.) It gives a warm glow in a dark room allowing you to get around safely but is not obtrusive.
